UNIT NOTES FROM THE SPRING MUSTER:
By Mark Krug

Our unit will stand inspection at Vincennes. Ladies will stand inspection later in June, perhaps at Grand Encampment, South Milwaukee. A spreadsheet of the GIR and its sources will be available shortly. We will not know who will inspect us until Vincennes. To help with this impression we will be impersonating the unit in garrison around April of 1777.

Musicians' equipment was the next item of business. All musicians will need swords, tornsters, haversacks, and a single frog. Mark Krug will be acting Quarter Master. He will inventory all camp gear and who has what. As a way of identifying unit gear, we will brand all unit items with the double C insignia of Duke Carl. We will also build bigger fire pits for meals and weapons maintenance.

To perfect our impressions, we will require all musketeers to either grow their hair long or wear a wig. They are available through Geudiva wigs for $70. Shoes must also be period. Townsends and Fugis make good pair for roughly $85. Glasses must also be period. See Rendezvous Eyewear at Vincennes for $125. Mark Rogers will handle sword knots. Neckstocks can be ordered from Mark Krug.

Each unit member will be responsible for a weekend's meals. He or she will be responsible for lunch and dinner on Saturday and lunch on Sunday. Before the event, the host cook shall call each and every member of the unit to see who is coming.. He or she will then list who will appear and what they will owe for meals. These people will then be responsible for paying this amount whether or not they appear for the event. The cook for each weekend will then purchase all needed materials. See the event schedule for who will cover which event (page 1).

The unit next turned to personnel issues. Chuck Young will no longer be welcome in our camp due to his reputation abroad. Dale Phillips will be put on inactive duty due to his daughter's illness.

The unit also placed a new emphasis on drill. All soldiers at events will drill at designated times. We will drill 30 minutes after morning colors and/or from 1:30 to 2:00 p.m. in the afternoon. We will also post guards two at a time, weather permitting. To help facilitate this, we will make a video tape at some point this year after the inspection. Mario, from Luzon's, will shoot the video independent of any weekend event or muster. Speaking of which, the Spring Muster will also help with drill. It will now be held on May 1-2 at the Davis'. All unit personnel are to bring everything they own including their tents so that we may prepare for the inspection.

The unit will purchase several items this season. We will get from the Library of Congress the full equipment listing for the German forces in North America. The cost will run about $ 123.82. We will also purchase a $50.00 first aid kit and two fire extinguishers for roughly $20.00 each. Powder will be bought by each individual through unit stores. The standard will be a FF grade of any brand. To cover these expenses, NWTA and unit dues, together, will run $34 for families and $23 for singles. The unit also approved Pam Ervin as auditor to sign-off on Mike Sawyer's work as Treasurer.

As a final note, we are hoping to have a unit picture at Cantigny. The unit approved $75 from unit funds for this sitting. Anyone wishing to buy an 8x10 photo will need to cough up $40. Anyone wanting an 11X14 picture will need $135. To be in the picture, please show up to the Cantigny event, or forever after you will be known as the one who left for the latrine in a flurry at that particular moment.
